Can you tell me the ratio of wood burnt to charcoal produced, ie. x pounds of wood makes x pounds of charcoal?

depends on the method of reduction and the type of wood, open burn produces a less dense coal than a closed burn method, while a mound burn produces different consistencies depending on the location in the pile if not done very carefully. in short there is no exact answer, even given a specific reduction method at a specific moisture content and of a specific variety it would still vary slightly.
